PRESENTATION
PICTURE BOOK PRESENTATION
An informative electronic presentation introduces picture books, their history and educational value along with a demo of the step by step process from first concept to finished product.
Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8. Session: 60mins
WORKSHOPS
WRITING & ILLUSTRATING
Create a story and artwork for your own picture book.
Materials: writing paper, drawing paper, sharpened pencil w/eraser, colored pencils, writing/drawing surface.
Writing - Develop story’s character(s), setting, conflict, and resolution. Using the story map (provided), students will choose a classic tale and rewrite it, changing any or all of the characters, setting, problem/resolution, or ending to create a manuscript.
Illustrating - Create and organize illustrations for your book. Illustrate with colored pencils and arrange art using a storyboard (provided).
Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8. Session: 90mins
WRITING & ILLUSTRATING with Dr. Seuss
After a brief introduction to Dr Seuss, create a story and artwork for your own picture book.
Materials: writing paper, drawing paper, sharpened pencil w/eraser, colored pencils, writing/drawing surface.
Writing – Using the writing style of Dr. Seuss, students will write their very own short story in rhyme with silly sentences or made-up words.
Illustrating – Create a pencil sketch of some characters from The Cat in the Hat (Cat, Kids, Fish, Thing One & Thing Two) while learning about the quirky illustrations that are uniquely Dr. Seuss.
Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8. Session: 90mins
WRITING (only)

Materials: lined writing paper, sharpened pencil, and writing surface.

ILLUSTRATING (only)
Create artwork for your own picture book.
Materials: drawing paper, sharpened colored pencils, pencil with eraser, drawing surface.
Create your own picture book illustration in colored pencils. Draw your own inspiration from the art of some picture book artists (Seuss, Sendak, Carle, etc.) What makes their illustrations so interesting and unique?
Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8. Session: 90mins
